Julianna & Nunu

I second shot for this incredible wedding with Brent Lewin for Studio 2000 on July 13, 2013. I have never experienced a wedding quite like this one before. This wedding was pretty much a dream for any photographer. Working alongside Brent Lewin was also fascinating. He had traveled all over the world photographing for National Geographic Magazine and was back for the summer to do weddings. Brent is my second cousin’s husband.

Everything about this wedding I loved. The getting ready atmosphere in Juliana’s house among her family and bridesmaids, all of the beautifully selected colours she chose and the incredible lighting in every single place we shot.

The ceremony was again like no other ceremony I had ever seen. Julianna stunned the guests as she walked down a beautifully enchanted looking forest. The couple did their vows beneath the trees, a gentle breeze and the sound of birds. Every bridesmaid wore a flowing soft pink dress. Brent and I took the wedding party into a forest for the photos and every single photo was magical. The entire bridal party as totally willing to hike up this giant hill for these incredible shots.

Julianna’s dress was one of a kind. The sweetheart neckline and perfectly fitting mermaid style gown suited her to a tea.

Being a second shooter was a lot of fun. It was less pressure for me and I was able to feel more “helpful”. I remember literally bolting across the isle before Julianna walked down in order to push a baby stroller out of the way so it wouldn’t be in the shots. I was able to capture images of guests that I wouldn’t be able to do if I was the main shooter. I was also able to capture the details that every girl would want to see. Being a woman, we know what kind of things are important. Men and women see the world so differently and the balance of both Brent and my eye together worked well.

This wedding was a huge learning experience for me. I learned so much from Brent that I would have never known if I didn’t experience this day. He is such a fascinating photographer to observe. This wedding paved the way for my ability to know exactly what to do with bridal parties and it also allowed me to become bolder in telling the Bride and Groom what I need and what will look good. Julianna and Nunu were more than willing to do anything for their photos including climbing up a very high wooden ladder. Not every bride will do this type of thing. Her dress ripped at one point, but she literally just shook it off and said something like, “anything for the photos”.

Although this wedding was literally picture perfect, it was also genuine. There was an enormous amount of effort put into the atmosphere, but it was balanced with the fun that every guest had. All of the guests were laughing, enjoying themselves and dancing the night away.

We literally did shoots in about 5 different locations, ending with a sunset photoshoot during golden hour and then another shoot at night time using sparklers. Needless to say, we both needed a good resting day afterwards. I will always cherish these gorgeous photos. Every wedding has a special place in my heart, this one was by far my favourite wedding to date to photograph. I loved every minute! I am ever so grateful to have been a part of this day. And I’d like to send a massive thank you to Brent for having me shoot and observe alongside you. All of these images below are my own, I can’t even imagine what the full collection looked like by Brent.
